The Value of Taking Breaks from Screens

Our screens are portals to information, entertainment, and connection. But too much of a good thing can be harmful. From the moment we wake up to the moment we sleep, we’re scrolling, clicking, watching, and responding. Over time, this non-stop stimulation takes a toll on our minds and bodies.
Digital fatigue is real. You might notice it as eye strain, headaches, irritability, trouble sleeping, or just a sense of being “wired but tired.” Our brains were never meant to process this much content, this quickly, for this long.
That’s why taking intentional breaks from screens is essential. Even 30 minutes a day of screen-free time can give your brain room to breathe. Use that time to do something analog—walk, stretch, meditate, write, or just stare out the window.
These pauses help reset your attention span, improve memory retention, and reduce stress. They even make screen time more enjoyable when you return to it. It's like rebooting your mental system.
If going completely offline feels hard, start with one screen-free hour a day—maybe during meals or right before bed. Protect your mind the same way you protect your body. Unplugging isn’t disconnection—it’s a way to reconnect with yourself.
